In 2017, owner Henry Service bought the Historic Lincoln Building in the 18th & Vine Historic District in Kansas City, Missouri. This place was, and will be again, the hub of Black commerce in Kansas City.
The Corner lives inside of the Historic Lincoln Building, and the work to advance and support Black and Brown businesses is even more important now as small businesses in communities of color struggle greatly due to COVID-19, “a pandemic on top of a series of epidemics,” as businessman Robert F. Smith recently said. Beyond the public health impact of the pandemic, we know the economic impact is hitting first and hardest in communities of color. On both fronts, it is very sad for all involved. The Corner is working collaboratively to ensure these businesses do not disappear.
The Lincoln Building’s important history and legacy as the hub of Black business in Kansas City is coming alive again. Come find us at The Corner at 18th & Vine as we seek to serve as an economic development asset for the community and as an intentional part of the resurgence of the 18th & Vine Historic District.
